Giving Young People a Voice

KONZ’s Youth Radio Project’s mission is to promote young people’s intellectual, creative and professional growth through training and access to media and to produce quality original media  that reflects the interests and concerns of area youth.

Before they can go on the air, Youth Radio participants learn the basics of broadcasting and citizen journalism. In the process, they are exposed to a broad spectrum of media-related careers.

But technical training is only part of the picture. Through their journalism education, participants also strengthen their foundation in basic life-skills: verbal expression, composition, computer technology, critical thinking, and conflict resolution.

Youth Radio contributes to the empowerment of northern Flint Hills area youth by giving them tools they will need for success. KONZ intends to bring youth perspectives to the airwaves, shedding light on the concerns and interests of our young people.
