On March 16, hundreds of parents, teachers and students rallied at the Capitol in Topeka to protest potential future cuts in education funding. Recent education funding levels have substantially improved educational results. Reducing funding to 1992 levels will destroy the progress Kansas schools have made to the detriment of our most innocent Kansans. The rally called for protecting Kansas’ future and our most valuable asset…the Kansas child. Speakers in order of appearance are: Noah Slay, Sen. Anthony Hensley, Gov. Mark Parkinson, Alec Weaver, 2009 Kansas Teacher of the year Cindy Coachman, Rep, Ann Mah, Rep. Paul Davis, Sen. Tom Holland, Alec Elkison, KNEA President Dr. Blake West and Christie Slay.
